Why do you House Sit
We love pets and travel, and it’s very hard to own a pet and get away (though you know that, it’s probably what brought you to this page!)
House sitting allows us to live like locals and explore new environments regularly, whilst making furry friends. We also like to back up each stay with a little adventure in the area so this lets us tick off a bucket list of amazing travel experiences and we are able to have adventures all over the world, going to places we might never have seen otherwise. We also take a lot of pride in a job well done so you can relax and enjoy your break.
What experience do you have with pets?
We have lots of experience with cats and dogs, both as our own pets growing up, caring for friends animals and working as foster carers when in Australia. This meant we were the first stop for many animals with behavioural issues from insecurities to aggression, we’ve handled all types of breeds and Sam has also had some experience with farm animals including horses as she spent many years growing up in rural Australia.
We are also confident we could care for birds, fish and even reptiles but Sam draws the line at caring for arachnids (no spiders!!).
How do you spend your downtime?
We like to get out and explore especially on foot, we love to go hiking and if it’s warm and there is a beach we’ll be there, especially if there is a good breeze as we both kiteboard – you’ll often see us towing around a big bag of kites just in case.
How practical are you around the home?
We are both very capable, we can cook, clean and care for ourselves and manage any issues that might come up on a day to day basis. We’ve also helped with some minor renovations in the past, taking car’s for emergency repairs, mowing lawns and we can follow instructions for gardens and plants plus any special maintenance jobs around the home that need to be taken care of while you are away.
Do you work?
Yes we both currently work remotely, during Australian hours where possible which means we’ll be home for a large portion of the day with your pets and to have plenty of time to take care of your home.
It is really helpful if there is a desk we can work from, especially for longer stays though we can make do with a kitchen table! We do like to have access to WI-FI, or at least internet service as we are both on good data plans as back up.
Whilst we love travel we do always separate our house sitting lifestyle from our travel adventures. When house sitting your home and pets are our our focus and the priority is them solely.
Driving and getting about
We have our own car at present in NSW, so we will require parking during our stays. Street parking is fine but in some areas we may need the use of a permit if free parking is not available. Samantha is the driver and Ben is the expert navigator, together we’ve driven all types of vehicles (left and right hand drive, automatic and manual) across all types of terrain. We prefer to have access to a vehicle during our sits (if we are flying in) as it makes activities like collecting groceries and taking pets out so much easier, if needs be we are happy to cover excess on insurance and find most cover occasional additional drivers.
Contracts and references
We are more than happy to sign a “house sitting agreement” if needs be but to date we’ve not had to. You will also find a selection of our most recent reviews and references on this page.
