We are really enjoying our time Squamish, we are caring for two lovely older dogs (Oliver and Ella) who enjoy quiet snuggles and long gentle walks and love to share our bed along with Charlie cat. Indie, a lovely big Ginger barn cat gets around as well though we see him usually only for meals and a few pats ‘to go’.
We’ve been out on many of the local hikes, when the snow allows, Lumberjacks is a favorite nearby and we loved exploring the Spit yesterday – where you can kiteboard in summer and birdwatch all year round, we saw a number of Bald Eagles and Hawks.
We have also been able to visit Whistler Blackcomb, where we are both progressing our snowboarding, Ben tackled a few green and blue runs, riding all the way down Blackcomb and I started to link my turns on the beginner area at Whistler.
I discovered there is a $35++ ‘Magic Chair’ beginner lift pass which allows access to a great beginner spot om Whistler as well as the Magic Chair lift on Blackcomb and we hired our equipment in Squamish for just $40++ at Urban Alpine. Great value, especially for a beginner. You can only buy this ticket on the day so you may need to wait in line, much less busy weekdays.
We also got out snowkiting on Green Lake, Dan from Aerial kiteboarding gave us a lesson in a balmy -7 degrees and we were off and riding in no time. It was great to see our skills were transferable though there were some new learnings in the wind direction coming off the nearby mountains.

We also had a lovely dinner with some of Ben’s extended family who live just around the corner and had us over just before they went over to NZ. We throughly enjoyed not only their company but a delicious roast and left with a very generous supply of fish including Sea bass, Salmon and the local favorite Halibut. (Thank you again Jamie & Josie – hopefully our paths will cross again).
This week, amongst lots of dog and cat snuggles, walks and caring and around work, we plan to hike the Squamish Chief, visit the Scandinave Spa and we’ve got tickets to the Canada 7’s game on Saturday – Ben is very excited and there certainly isn’t a dull moment during our Canadian adventures!
