It is very peculiar to look ahead in our calendar and not have any travel planned, however we have just returned from Byron Bay and we’re very thankful of the opportunity to travel within the state, a luxury not all Australia’s have at the moment. We are also hoping to begin house sitting again come the end of this month.
This was our second trip up, almost as far north, as our NSW residency currently permits us, along the way we enjoyed a stay in Yamba (staying at the beautiful Boathouse), and this time we enjoyed a short stop in Sapphire Bay, where we celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary with a meal out – post lock-down luxury.
We stopped off for the night at the gorgeous studio apartment AirBnB, hosted by Coral and her husband Ron. It was a beautiful overlooking the water and we could see whales breaching from the hot tub. If I had known how lovely it was I would have packed a picnic and planned for us to celebrate our anniversary there.

As we arrived into Byron Bay we had to make a bee-line for the hospital as I had woken with a tickle in my throat that had continued to get worse and we dreaded that we might have come in contact with covid-19. After a rather unpleasant test and self-isolating away from our friends, we were very pleased when we received the negative test results, which were texted to us only 11 hours after the test was complete.
Shout out to another fab AirBnB, a lovely little pool house where we were able to complete a self-check in and take shelter while we waited for the results.

Once I had fully recovered we were able to enjoy the beach, doing our best to stay socially distanced and even went out for dinner and drinks to celebrate our friend’s birthday.
It is strange to live in a time when it is deemed safe to undertake some travel albeit with the new ‘covid-normal’ but you are still worried about visiting your family and friends in case you transport the virus with you.
Do you agree? Are you able to travel where you are?
