We were very lucky to have planned a trip up north beginning just days before the latest lockdown in NSW, Ben had been over in NZ with his family and I packed up the car and drove to Brisbane to meet him mid June, luckily I was also able to spend some time with some of my family before departing NSW with my Mum coming to visit on the Central Coast and a stop in to see my Dad on his birthday.
More than 800kms later, Ben and I were reunited after more than 6 weeks apart, we had a great time catching up with our friends Suzi, Ricky and Jimmy and we were even able to get our first vaccination shots locally before we went on our way to start our first house sit…

Our first sit was looking after Poppy, a very chilled cat on the Gold Coast. Poppy was very easy to look after and we ended up spending a lot of time together as we were required to isolate as a precaution as I had travelled out of NSW recently and there was a short snap lockdown in the local area.
Poppy’s family had just gotten over to see their family in New Zealand and were very glad as the international borders were closed just days after they left, we were in constant contact and we were so glad to be able to reassure her family and purposely kept a few days between sits in case of any delays, we are also able to split up should their be an overlap.

Our next sit was on the upper Sunshine Coast, a repeat sit for the lovely Jak and his new sister Ava. Jak is a beautiful 6 year old Rottweiler & Eva is a 2 yr old Rhodesian Ridgeback. Jak loves walking, playing ball, swimming, company and affection. Eva loves to run & chase Jak and also loves company and a cuddle. We had a lovely time taking care of these two as well as further exploring the area which we are now considering buying a home in, particularly around the Mooloolabar area so stayed tuned… we’ll never stop traveling but it would be nice to have somewhere to store our live and return to between adventures.

We then left our vehicle with our friends on the peninsula and jumped on a flight up to Cairns, we spent a week at Yorkies Knob, returning to the same apartments we stayed at the beginning of the year and went kiteboarding and we received our second vaccination which we celebrated with a day by the (swim-up) pool in the Novotel in town.
After a few more days, working and relaxing in Yorkies including a few trips to the local boat club to watch the sunset we moved over to Palm Cove to take care of Roxi, her Mum and Dad were supposed to be traveling interstate but unfortunately the borders had closed so they decided to head down to the Whitsundays and holiday closer to home.

We loved the fantastic weather and beautiful neighbourhood and while we were there we caught up with previous TrustedHousesitters homeowners Ian and Mark whom we had cared for their lovely dogs Trixie and Lucy back in April, we also got out for a day of kiteboarding in Palm Cove and even went wakeboarding.

We also decided to break our lease in NSW and have our belongings put back in storage, so once again we are nomads with no fixed abode.

Just as we were getting ready to fly back to Brisbane there was a lockdown announced for the South East region on Queensland so we decided to cancel our flights and see if we could drive back to try and avoid getting caught up in that, which I’ll share more about in our next post!
